Today I went on a 5 mile hike up Big Cottonwood Canyon. "Dog Lake" wasn't much of a lake, but the hike itself was beautiful. For starters, it was about 15 degrees cooler up there, and although we have had no water and too much heat recently, there were plenty of beautiful flowers. Mountain Lupin and Mountain Columbine were everywhere against a back drop of Blue Spruce and Aspen. It was a tough hike (1900 ft in 2.5 miles), but well worth it. Could have used another liter or two of water though. On my way back down the canyon, mildly sore, hot, stinky, and covered in dirt, Free Fallin' by Tom Petty came on the radio and for some reason it seemed like the perfect song for my day.
